A Doctor's Note, August 1, 2025
Form the desk of Sen. Roger Marshall

Fellow Kansan,
I just returned from Washington, DC this week as more and more nations came to the negotiating table with President Trump giving our American farmers, ranchers, businesses, and producers a new market to sell to.
The landmark deal with the EU will help reduce America's $24 billion agricultural trade deficit with the EU. It will also increase investment in the U.S. by at least $400 billion and lead to the purchase of $100 billion worth of American products and commodities.
South Korea will invest $300 billion in the U.S. with potentially another $100 billion of American energy exports within the next four years.
To date the President has successfully negotiated pro-America – and importantly, pro-farmer and rancher – trade deals with the United Kingdom, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, and the Philippines.
Kansas farmers and ranchers now have access to critically important export markets for our world-class products and goods.
The once vocal doubters have even come around to admitting that this is a monumental win for the President and the American people.
This is the Art of the Deal in practice. By securing these trade deals we're re-establishing American national security, economic prosperity, and our standing internationally.
Also this week, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Undersecretary Stephen Vaden revealed before the Senate Agriculture Committee its plans for the relocation about their allocation announcement, Kansas City will become the second-largest beneficiary of this relocation.
Besides the obvious advantage of moving to Kansas City, like becoming a Chiefs fan, the USDA workforce now has proximity to the greatest agricultural research in the world.
Another major benefit is that when you have people going to the same churches and grocery stores as the local farmers and ranchers, who benefit from their programs, it's going to build stronger local connections.
Relocating the USDA to the heartland will increase efficiency, exposure, and accountability with the workers who support our farmers and ranchers.
The wins keep rolling in for Kansas – and I will keep sharing the news as they happen.
Please know that my family and I take this responsibility seriously and are proud to represent all Kansans in the U.S. Senate.
Sincerely,
Senator Roger Marshall, M.D.
Senator Marshall: The USDA is Coming to Kansas City
At the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry hearing on the USDA reorganizational proposal, and how it would be in not just the USDA's best interests, but those of farmers and ranchers too.
Deputy Secretary Vaden said, "The Department put some thought into this. We want to spark that level of collaboration that you have noted, whether it be with our land grant and non-land grant university partners, whether it be with individual farmers, whether it be with the local Chamber of Commerce in an area that is driven and motivated, even though it may be in an urban setting, by agriculture.
"I know that you're well aware that the Federal Reserve has a location in Kansas City, and that we're looking at the shape of the agricultural economy for inclusion in the Beige Book, so we look to what the Kansas City Fed has to say. USDA will be able to take advantage of all of these synergies, and not only Kansas City, but the other hubs that we have, too."
Senator Marshall: We're Not Tired of Winning
The economy was another hot topic for the press, and I joined RFD-TV, Newsmax, Fox Business, The Sean Spicer Show, and the Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox News Radio to discuss the USDA relocation, the President's historic run on trade deals, the Federal Reserve's mismanagement of interest rates, the return of the President's fitness test, and the Make America Healthy Again movement at large.
Senator Marshall: Making America Healthy Again Starts with Cost Transparency
Price transparency remains a key focus of mine, as part of my commitment to not only Make America Healthy Again, but fight for Main Street over Wall Street. During a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing focused on making American health care more affordable, I questioned healthcare experts, Ms. Chris Deacon, Principal and Founder at VetSan Consulting, Dr. Benedict Ippolito, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and Mr. Wendell Potter, Senior Fellow at the Center for Health and Democracy.
Senators Marshall & Markey Introduce Legislation to Protect Warehouse Workers From Dangerous Quotas
My fight for Main Street also led me to introduce the Warehouse Worker Protection Act alongside Senator Edward J. Markey, which prohibits dangerous quotas that threaten warehouse worker safety and lead to high injury rates. Several major corporations have speed and productivity quotas for warehouse workers that can push the employee beyond safe limits, leading to higher injury rates.
Amid the vast expansion of shipping and online shopping, the nearly 2 million warehouse workers keeping the economy moving have been left behind. For too long, companies have been implementing outlandish quotas, cutting into workers' rights, and leading to injuries. That ends with this bill.
Senator Marshall's Bill to Strengthen Employee Ownership in America Unanimously Passes Committee
Kansans are known for their work ethic, and they deserve a secure retirement following a lifetime of hard work. This week, every Republican and Democrat member of the HELP Committee voted to advance my bipartisan legislation – The Retire Increases Ownership Act – that will make it easier for Americans to save for the future and retire with confidence. I urge Congress to swiftly pass this legislation.
Senators Marshall & Baldwin Introduce Legislation to End Dairy Mislabeling
Consumers deserve clear, honest labels on the products they purchase. Misleading labels on non-dairy products, which are often nutritionally inferior, cause confusion and undermine the value of real dairy.
That's why I helped introduce the bipartisan Defending Against Imitations and Replacements of Yogurt, milk, and cheese to Promote Regular Intake of Dairy Everyday Act (DAIRY PRIDE Act) of 2025.
This legislation will ensure that non-dairy products cannot engage in duplicitous labeling practices, such as calling non-dairy imitation products "milk" or "yogurt" that do not contain dairy and are instead from a plant, nut, or grain.
These imitation products not only fail to match the 13 essential nutrients found in whole milk but also harm dairy farmers who tirelessly meet rigorous health standards to deliver the most nutritious drink known to man.
Senators Marshall & Ernst Introduce Legislation to Prevent Overregulation of Farmers & Ranchers
I was also proud to join my colleagues in introducing the CLEAR Waters Act, which excludes groundwater, farm ponds, irrigation ditches, and puddles from federal regulation under the Clean Water Act. Specifically, it will provide much-needed clarity for farmers, ranchers, and landowners and prevent overregulation of water features on their property – while maintaining strong environmental protections.
Senator Marshall: U.S. Skies Must be the Safest in the World
Six months after the midair collision involving an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines flight 5342, I joined Senator Ted Cruz at a press conference to support the introduction of the STOP SAM Act. This legislation will address key oversight gaps in aviation safety by strengthening coordination, transparency, and operational safeguards in American airspace.
As I said in my remarks, "This legislation mandates the technology, aircraft, and key airspace studies barring rotorcraft from DCA during final approach by orders, all so army audit of FAA coordination, pilot training, and ADSB use. These demands were asked for and driven by the victims' families. I hope they know that their voices and their law that they're being heard. And I appreciate the families staying at this. And no law can bring back the 67 people who we lost, but we can mandate aviation safety to prevent such a tragedy again."
Senators Marshall & Moran Introduce Resolutions Honoring the Life of Undersheriff Brandon Gaede & Deputy Elijah Ming
On Thursday, I joined fellow Kansas Senator Jerry Moran in introducing resolutions honoring the life of Phillips County Undersheriff Brandon Gaede and Wyandotte County Deputy Sheriff Elijah Ming, distinguished Kansans who both recently lost their lives in the line of duty.
Both Brandon and Elijah were selfless American heroes who committed their lives to keeping our communities safe.
Senator Marshall Joins Bipartisan Letter to the Surface Transportation Board Raising Concerns for the Union Pacific & Norfolk Southern Railroad Merger
This week I joined a letter to raise concerns around a potential merger Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern railroads, urging the Surface Transportation Board to carefully review the matter.
In recent years, I have heard from too many U.S. manufacturers, utility companies, agricultural producers, and small businesses experiencing service and reliability problems while paying excessive rates. The railroad industry has proven to be more concerned with increasing its rates and profits rather than improving its service.
Senators Marshall & Cassidy Introduce Legislation to Assist Families With Post-Secondary Education Choices
One of the biggest choices that students and their parents can make in their lifetimes is where – or whether – to attend college. In this day and age of increasing job insecurity for recent graduates and young workers, students should know what they're getting into before making that choice.
I am proud to introduce the College Transparency Act, which ensures that students and families have better information as they consider higher education opportunities, modernizing the college reporting system on student outcomes such as enrollment, completion, and post-college earnings across colleges and majors.
Senator Marshall: The Kansas City Chiefs are in Great Shape Ahead of the 2025 Season
As a personal highlight, I had the pleasure and privilege of being able to attend Kansas City Chiefs training camp. I joined my friend Pete Mundo on KCMO's Mundo in The Morning to discuss what I saw from the sideline, what I think (and hope) is in store for the Chiefs' 2025 season, and the upcoming week for Senate Republicans as we continue delivering on President Trump's agenda.
