MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 15-0 record Saturday, sweeping both Wellington and El Dorado in a home triangular. The A team defeated Wellington 25-17, 25-9 and rolled past El Dorado 25-8, 25-8, transitioning from a 6-2 offensive system to a 5-1 with Hayden Vogelsberg handling all setting duties. Elin Schmidt and Cayson Harlin recorded kills in the opening set against Wellington, Leah Jackson, Kayleigh Dilli and Cali Melton were effective at the net against El Dorado, and Luci Redden, Macie Reinwald and Hayden Allen anchored the back row throughout. Coach Christine Pianalto noted Schmidt's strong serving helped close out the second set against Wellington, and credited the entire squad's energy and the support of a lively crowd. The B team also went undefeated on the day, topping Wellington twice — 25-13, 26-24 and 25-20, 25-19 — in a doubleheader to finish 15-3 on the season, with coach Brittany Baum expressing pride in the group's growth all year. The A team travels to Haysville Middle School on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the Patriot League North tournament.
