District Explores Future with Bond Committee
Discussions have begun regarding the formation of a bond committee to address the district’s future needs. Superintendent Quentin Breese and the Board of Education broached the topic during the meeting, signaling a potential first step towards a future bond initiative for facility improvements or other major projects within the district. Spain Exchange Trip Gets Green Light for Planning
The Board of Education has authorized the initial planning for a student exchange trip to Spain. The proposal was brought before the board by Laia Dietz, a Spanish teacher at Smoky Valley High School. Following her presentation, the board voted unanimously to allow Mrs. Dietz and a high school team to begin organizing the international opportunity for students. Further details on the potential trip, including dates and costs, will be developed as planning proceeds.
Community Donations Bolster Arts and Agriculture Programs
Smoky Valley schools received targeted donations from the community to support student programs. The board formally accepted a $200 contribution from the Norene Ketcherside Endowment for Fine Arts, which will benefit the Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School’s Art Club. Additionally, the district accepted a donation of miscellaneous equipment and supplies for the high school’s Agriculture Shop from an anonymous donor.
Coaching Roster Filled for Fall Sports
Two new coaches were approved for the 2025-2026 school year as the district prepares for its fall athletic seasons. The board hired Emily Pihl as the Assistant Girls Tennis Coach at Smoky Valley High School. Morgan King was approved as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at the middle school, a position evaluated annually based on student participation numbers. The Smoky Valley Athletic Association agreed to contribute $1,000 toward the volleyball coaching supplemental salary for the upcoming school year.
New Assistant for Transportation & Buildings & Grounds Hired
The district has filled a key administrative role by hiring Shaun Pratt as the new Assistant to the Director of Transportation & Director of Buildings & Grounds. The Board of Education officially approved the hiring as part of its consent agenda. Pratt is scheduled to begin his new duties on or before October 1, 2025.
