District Launches New Behavior Intervention Program for K-8 Students
HURON - To better support students with behavioral challenges, the Huron School District has successfully launched a new Tier 2 behavior facilitator program for grades K-8. According to a report from Mrs. Jolene Konechne, these facilitators will provide targeted interventions for students exhibiting at-risk behaviors, serving as a critical link between general classroom support and more intensive, individualized plans. The program aims to prevent the escalation of behavioral issues, allowing both the student in need and their classmates to maintain a productive learning environment. Facilitators, who have already received four days of specialized training, will work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and families to create proactive support plans. The district is still seeking to fill the position at the middle school.
Veteran Middle School Teacher Announces Resignation
HURON - The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Tammy Barnes, a middle school teacher with 15 years of service to the district, at its meeting on September 22. Her resignation will be effective at the end of the current school year. The board also approved four other resignations, including a special education paraprofessional, an assistant wrestling coach, and two other paraeducators. In the same consent agenda, the board approved contracts for seven new hires to the district.
Board to Tour High School Construction Progress
HURON - Following the conclusion of their public meeting, members of the Board of Education were scheduled to tour the new construction at Huron High School. The tour was intended to provide a firsthand look at the progress of ongoing capital improvement projects at the facility.
New Student Members Welcomed to Board of Education
HURON - The Huron Board of Education officially welcomed its two new student board members for the 2024–2025 school year: Charlie Bragg and Gracie Warren. The board president introduced the students at the start of the meeting. Bragg had the honor of leading the board and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Student members provide a student perspective during board discussions but do not have voting power.
Board Approves New Advertising Agreements for Athletic Venues
HURON - Local businesses will continue to have a visible presence at Huron school athletic facilities after the Board of Education approved two multi-year advertising agreements. Henny Penny Pet Corner secured an advertising agreement at the Huron Arena for 2025 through 2030. Montgomery Real Estate’s agreement covers advertising at both the Huron Arena and Tiger Stadium for the years 2025 through 2028.
