RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Two people died and three others were injured, including an infant, in a head-on collision Monday, October 6, on K-14 Highway in Reno County.

Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 10:14 a.m. to the 8200 block of North K-14 Highway near 82nd Avenue after receiving reports of an injury accident with multiple victims and at least one person trapped.

According to the Reno County Sheriff's Office, a silver Subaru SUV traveling northbound crossed left of center into the southbound lane. A red Ford F-150 traveling southbound attempted to avoid the collision by pulling onto the right shoulder, but the Subaru also moved onto that shoulder, and the vehicles collided head-on.

Citizens at the scene had begun performing lifesaving measures before first responders arrived.

The Subaru carried four occupants. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others — including an infant — were transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a Wichita hospital. The sole occupant of the Ford was taken by private vehicle to Lyons Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Names of all occupants are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including Reno County Fire District 3, Reno County EMS, Hutchinson Fire Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Reno County Fire/Emergency Management, Rice County EMS and the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The sheriff's office thanked responding agencies and citizens who provided initial assistance and traffic control.
