HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 19-year-old man is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge after an early-morning crime spree Tuesday left a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Hutchinson police officers first responded around 2 a.m. to the 1400 block of North Prairie Street, where Teyton T. Savage Dobbins allegedly tried to force his way into an occupied home using an axe. Although Dobbins fled the scene before police arrived, officers apprehended him 16 minutes later behind a residence in the 700 block of West 13th Avenue.

Shortly after his arrest, first responders were dispatched at 2:30 a.m. to a nearby home in the 700 block of West 14th Avenue, where they discovered a woman who had been severely attacked with an edged weapon. She was transported to a Wichita hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Throughout the day, neighborhood residents reported additional crimes that police subsequently linked to Dobbins. After receiving medical treatment at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Dobbins was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility on 10 total charges involving multiple victims and locations.

Those counts include attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, a domestic violence-related attempted aggravated burglary charge, five additional counts of attempted aggravated burglary, and both felony and misdemeanor property damage.
