HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A storm pipe failure has forced the closure of 11th Street between Kansas Highway 61 and Lorraine Street in Hutchinson, city officials announced Friday.
The failure caused a washout beneath the roadway, rendering the corridor unsafe for both eastbound and westbound travel. No timeline for reopening has been announced.
K-61, known within Hutchinson city limits as the Ken Kennedy Freeway, remains open to traffic despite the closure of the adjacent surface street.

City crews are on site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the scope of necessary repairs, according to the City of Hutchinson. Officials said additional information, including a projected reopening date, will be released as it becomes available.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Detour routes are depicted on maps shared by the city via its official social media channels.
Officials did not immediately indicate whether the latest closure was related to recent weather events. Further updates are expected from the City of Hutchinson as the damage assessment progresses.
