# Zoning department clears over $580,000 in unpermitted building violations

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The county planning, zoning and environment office cleared four major unpermitted building violations valued at $582,250 in March after traveling nearly 1,700 miles to track down unauthorized construction projects.

Administrator John Kinsey told the county commission that the office processed over $1 million in total building valuation last month, collecting $21,000 in fees. Kinsey highlighted the department's active enforcement efforts to ensure local construction adheres to safety and zoning regulations, presenting a report of the specific addresses cleared in March.

During the same meeting, the commission unanimously approved several personnel actions, including the hiring of Anthony Nixon as the new county surveyor effective May 4\. Nixon's employment includes a $1,600 moving stipend and a scheduled pay step increase upon receiving his Kansas license.

Commissioners also unanimously approved promoting a maintenance employee to Maintenance Worker 3, effective April 12, and hiring a part-time seasonal mowing worker, effective April 7.
