The Hutchinson High School Salthawks faced off against the Andover High School Trojans on Friday, September 4, 2025, at Gowens Stadium in Hutchinson, KS. It was a hot night, with the temperature at 100 degrees at kickoff.

The two squads were coming off similar seasons in 2025\. The Trojans finished the 2025 season with a 6 - 3 record, losing in the Class 5A playoffs to Salina South. The Salthawks finished 7-3, defeating Emporia in the Class 5A playoffs before losing to Hays.

Hutchinson received the opening kickoff and moved the ball to midfield where Andover held the Salthawks on downs. The ensuing punt rolled deep into Trojans territory. Andover senior quarterback Will Quinn took control of the offense. On their third play from scrimmage, Quinn took the ball around right end for a 79-yard touchdown, giving the Trojans a 7 - 0 lead. Andover would not surrender the lead for the rest of the matchup. The Trojans added to their lead in the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass.

The Salthawks stayed in the game throughout. On their first play after Andover's second touchdown, Hutchinson junior quarterback Davin Morgan connected with senior receiver Lamar Govain for a 63-yard touchdown. Early-season mistakes hindered the Salthawks as they lost field position and had positive plays negated by penalties.

The first half ended with a 14-7 score. Early in the second half, Andover quarterback Will Quinn was injured, and junior Tyler Jones entered the game, leading the Trojans to their final eighteen points. The Salthawk combo of Morgan and Govain connected twice more in the second half, but that wasn't enough to complete the comeback. Andover prevailed 32 - 21.

The Hutchinson High School Salthawks' next matchup will be against the Derby High School Panthers on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Derby.
