The Justice Department said Morens and others used his personal Gmail account to hide communications about efforts to restore a terminated coronavirus research grant held by EcoHealth Alliance, which had issued a subaward to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Congressional records show Morens exchanged information with EcoHealth President Peter Daszak through personal email while assisting efforts to restore the organization's funding. His plea also covers a conspiracy involving illegal gratuities, including wine supplied by a grant recipient while Morens discussed an official act he could perform in return, according to prosecutors. Morens faces up to five years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 12, while former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci was not charged in the case. The draft says companies likely violate the FTC Act when they use a shopper's personal data to set an individualized price without disclosing the practice, and the commission said it intends to direct enforcement resources accordingly. The proposal is not in force, is not a formal regulation and would not ban personalized pricing, which the agency acknowledged Congress has not authorized it to prohibit outright. Retailers, travel sites, grocery apps and other platforms using customer data to set prices could face enforcement if they do not tell shoppers that prices are tailored. The proposal would establish the federal government's first formal position on the practice and could give consumers more information about whether others are seeing different prices. FTC / Reuters / MediaPost --- # LandSpace Booster Landing Narrows China's Reuse Gap Private Chinese launch company LandSpace placed the Honghu-03 satellite in orbit Wednesday, Aug. 19, and returned the first stage of its Zhuque-3 rocket to a vertical landing in Gansu province. The flight marked the first recovery of an orbital-class booster by a Chinese company and made LandSpace the fourth entity worldwide to achieve such a landing, after SpaceX, Blue Origin and Rocket Lab. The 217-foot Zhuque-3 uses a stainless-steel airframe and methane-oxygen engines, distinguishing it from SpaceX's kerosene-fueled Falcon 9\. The landing came on the rocket's second orbital flight after an earlier reusable test vehicle was lost in an explosion.
