Ammonia Leak at Coffeyville Plant Sends Several to Hospital Emergency crews responded to an ammonia leak at the CVR Nitrogen Plant in Coffeyville on Saturday afternoon. According to radio station KGGF, initial reports indicate at least 15 people exposed to hazardous conditions received medical attention this afternoon. The incident, reported around 4:00 p.m., prompted response teams from Coffeyville, Indepenence, Caney, Tyro, and Cherryvale. Because Coffeyville Regional Medical Center reached capacity, patients were diverted to Independence for treatment. Sen. Moran Warns Government Shutdown Threatens Aviation Safety** U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran warned that the ongoing federal government shutdown is threatening the nation's aviation system, citing the Jan. 29 crash of a Wichita commercial jet that collided with a military helicopter over Washington, D.C. The Kansas Republican, who chairs the Senate's aviation subcommittee, called the system "too fragile" to continue operating under shutdown conditions and urged Democrats to work with Republicans on a short-term budget resolution to reopen the government and return workers to their jobs. Showers, Cooler Temperatures Move Through Kansas** A cold front moving through Kansas today is bringing scattered showers to central parts of the state, with rainfall amounts up to half an inch possible and temperatures in the 60s and low 70s. Showers may linger into Tuesday morning across northern and western Kansas before clearing Tuesday afternoon, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 70s. Quiet, breezy weather returns midweek with temperatures in the low 80s, before another system arrives late Thursday night into Friday bringing additional showers and cooler weekend temperatures. Brazilian Planemaker Sees Opening to Challenge Airbus-Boeing Duopoly** Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto says rising demand for commercial aircraft could create opportunities for new competitors to challenge the Airbus-Boeing duopoly in narrow-body jet production. Speaking from the company's São José dos Campos headquarters, Gomes Neto pointed to projections of 40,000 aircraft needed in that segment over the next 20 years, suggesting room for three or four manufacturers. Embraer, the world's third-biggest planemaker, currently dominates the regional jet market for aircraft carrying fewer than 150 passengers. Financial Times --- ### **5\. Chiefs, K-State Win; Red Raiders Beat Kansas** Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another score as the Chiefs defeated the Lions 30-17, though the game ended in a brief melee when Detroit safety Brian Branch threw a punch at JuJu Smith-Schuster at midfield.
