NEWTON, Kan. — The South Spencer Road reconstruction project has advanced to its third phase, bringing new traffic patterns as crews work between the K&O Railroad and Southeast 14th Street.

The project was initially estimated at about $3.6 million but later updated to about $2.6 million.

Both lanes are now open from East First to Southeast Ninth streets. However, the active Phase 3 work zone and Connector Road are restricted to southbound travel, requiring northbound drivers to detour using Hillside and Southeast Spencer roads.

A final layer of pavement will be placed across all three project sections once major reconstruction concludes, replacing the temporary asphalt-to-concrete wedges currently smoothing the intersections.
