MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office marked Sheriff Jerry Montagne’s 66th birthday with a Facebook tribute Monday, Oct. 12, crediting him with 43 years of service and thanking him for his commitment to helping others.

Montagne became sheriff effective Jan. 9, 2017, according to [McPherson County Commission records](https://www.mcphersoncountyks.us/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/1697?ref=citizenjournal.us). He won the office in [November 2020](https://www.mcphersoncountyks.us/DocumentCenter/View/6639/Final-Unofficial-Results-for-Public?ref=citizenjournal.us) and was re-elected without opposition in [November 2024](https://mcphersoncountyks.us/DocumentCenter/View/8137/Signed-Final-Canvass-of-Votes-Fed-State-County?ref=citizenjournal.us), receiving 12,128 votes.

The county’s [official biography](https://mcphersoncountyks.us/254/Meet-The-Sheriff?ref=citizenjournal.us) says Montagne has more than 40 years of law enforcement experience. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Police Academy in 1982 and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1983, a timeline that matches the office’s 43-year count.

Montagne, a [1995 Bethany College graduate](https://www.bethanylb.edu/community-benefits-from-bethany-college-mcpherson-sheriff-and-other-law-enforcement-relations?ref=citizenjournal.us), earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in administration of justice.
