Zoo officials, including Director Kei Hodgson, plan to serve alcohol at specific evening events, such as the upcoming ZooFest on Aug. 8 and a late-summer concert series, to generate new revenue streams. To ensure safety across the 4-acre public access area, Hodgson confirmed that all staff members will undergo Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) to monitor alcohol consumption, and strict identification checks and wristbands will be enforced at the concession stand. --- ### First reading of e-bike and scooter ordinance draws public pushback SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - A proposed ordinance to regulate electric bicycles, scooters, minibikes and golf carts faced scrutiny during its first reading at Tuesday's city council meeting. Several residents and the advocacy group Bike Walk Nebraska expressed concerns over provisions that would ban e-bikes from downtown streets and city pathways, arguing the ban would hinder alternative transportation. The event, celebrating its 29th year in the city, will close Broadway Avenue from Railway Street to 19th Street from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The permit also includes the use of the parking lot south of Bluffs Bakery to accommodate vendors with unique setups requiring additional space. --- ### Inaugural car show to benefit local shoe charity SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - A new car show received unanimous approval for a street closure on West 23rd Street between Avenue A and Broadway for Aug. 29, 2026\. Organized by a local business owner, the alcohol-free event will feature local food trucks, a bounce house and a vehicle showcase. All $10 vehicle registration proceeds will be donated to a local charity to purchase shoes for local children in need, according to event organizers. --- ### Flyover Brewing granted special liquor license for festival SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Flyover Brewing Co. was granted a special designated liquor license for the Beef, Beans & Bluegrass Festival. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Aug. 22, 2026, at the 18th Street Plaza. The brewery's off-site management team confirmed that all staff serving at the event are trained in Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) and will monitor the gates to prevent any alcohol from leaving the designated premises. --- ### Riverside Discovery Center welcomes new 13-foot metal sculpture SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - During council reports, officials highlighted the recent installation of a new, nearly 13-foot metal giraffe sculpture at the Riverside Discovery Center. Crafted over six months by artist Garry Underwood of Alliance using 900 individual metal pieces, the exhibit also features a companion metal tree.
