### New fire regulations won't retroactively impact local event venues

SALINA, Kan. — The Temple, a historic event venue located at 336 S. Santa Fe Ave., and VFW Post 1432, whose gathering occupancies were recently reviewed, will not be retroactively subject to upcoming state fire code changes, Salina Fire Marshal Joe Kvacik confirmed Tuesday. Kansas state statutes prohibit the retroactive imposition of new fire codes on existing businesses unless they make significant changes to their occupancies. The confirmation offered relief to the venues, which currently operate under an occupancy limit of 300 people, as opposed to the 100-person limit mandated for new construction.
