The Riley County Board of Commissioners is set to consider adjustments to the county's short-term rental rules and rural driveway standards during its Thursday morning meeting.

The board will weigh an amendment granting a 90-day grace period for new property owners to secure a short-term rental license. The proposed change aims to protect existing rental investments from a recently enacted 500-foot separation requirement between units, which currently terminates a property's grandfathered status immediately upon a change in ownership.

Additionally, the commissioners are scheduled to vote on updating driveway standards to allow emergency services personnel to inspect and approve new driveways, a move designed to alleviate the workload on the county engineer's office.

Later in the morning, the commission is slated to hear a presentation on data centers from Evergy representative Jason Klindt.

The agenda also includes standard administrative actions, such as finalizing a cereal malt beverage license for Stagg Hill Golf Club and approving the retirements of long-serving county employees.

Among the scheduled personnel actions are the retirements of Vehicle Supervisor Donna Borgerding, who is stepping down after 40 years with the county, and WIC Clerk Deborah Banks, who is departing after eight years.

The board is led by [Chair Kathryn Focke](https://www.rileycountyks.gov/67/Meet-the-Commissioners?ref=citizenjournal.us), a Democrat, alongside Republican Commissioners John Ford and Greg McKinley. The meeting is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. in the commission chambers in downtown Manhattan.
