Moundridge USD 423 canceled a homecoming-week event Thursday, Oct. 1, because of rain. The district’s Facebook post did not identify the event or say whether it would be rescheduled. “CANCELLED! Pass the word! We love the rain but you can’t light a fire in it! See you tomorrow at the tailgate instead!” the post said. The cancellation came as the National Weather Service said localized flooding was imminent or occurring in McPherson County after up to 2 inches of rain, with up to 3 additional inches possible through the evening.

Friday’s homecoming activities remain scheduled. As [Citizen Journal reported Sept. 29](https://www.citizenjournal.us/moundridge-district-names-six-students-to-mhs-fall-2026-royalty-court/), a Sept. 26 district Facebook post listed the Back the Cats Tailgate at 5 p.m., the homecoming crowning at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff against Hutchinson Trinity at 7 p.m. The [USD 423 events calendar](https://www.usd423.org/view-all-events?ref=citizenjournal.us) also lists the Fall Homecoming football game at Moundridge.
