Visitors to Newton City Hall will notice a bare exterior after Parks Department crews removed trees and shrubs from the front of the building Tuesday. In a [Sept. 29 Facebook post](https://www.facebook.com/CityofNewtonKS/posts/pfbid02j7fM95MCf7Y5jjVLhs4nEQ6cAkWCQmMAYWewzj1GYL75wkeW6MmLJMyCtMbAFY3wl), the city said the trees were aging and in overall decline and the shrubs had become overgrown. City Hall is at 201 E. Sixth St.

The city described the removal as the first step in refreshing the landscaping. According to the post, the area will be replanted with healthier, more manageable vegetation suited to the site.
