New pavement is down on Hayes Street in South McPherson, the city said in a photo update Monday, Sept. 28\. The post said, "If you've been in the South McPherson area lately, you'll notice some big changes in Hayes and Hickory Street."

The city's [official project notice](https://www.mcpcity.com/m/newsflash/home/detail/1340?ref=citizenjournal.us) says the Hickory Street reconstruction runs from Lincoln Street to Hayes Street. Earlier [city project information](https://www.mcpcity.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1259&ref=citizenjournal.us) says the work also includes rebuilding about 250 feet of Hayes Street west of Hickory, along with drainage, curb-and-gutter, and utility improvements.

The McPherson City Commission approved the original Prairie Landworks contract on July 7 for an amount not to exceed $1,001,465.92, according to the city's [commission meeting archive](https://www.mcpcity.com/Archive.aspx?ADID=816&ref=citizenjournal.us) and project notice. Construction was expected to begin in mid-August. The city held a final public information session on July 28 to discuss the timeline, scope, and temporary access limitations. The Hickory Street reconstruction is a remaining commitment under the city's first half-cent sales tax for street improvements.

Residents with questions about the project can contact McPherson Public Works at 620-245-2535, according to the city's [official project notice](https://www.mcpcity.com/m/newsflash/home/detail/1340?ref=citizenjournal.us).
