Charles L. Robinson was a key Free-State (a US state where slavery was prohibited before the Civil War) leader during Bleeding Kansas and became Kansas' 1st governor in 1861\. He played a big role in organizing the anti-slavery movement & drafting the Topeka Constitution. Arrested for treason in 1856, he was later freed and led Kansas as a free state.
