# McPherson to host Sept. 29 meeting on grant bid to make downtown plaza accessible

Residents can hear Tuesday, Sept. 29, how McPherson intends to ask the state for grant money to remove accessibility barriers at the downtown plaza at Main and Marlin streets.

In an [announcement published Wednesday, Sept. 23](https://mcpcity.com/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/1362?ref=citizenjournal.us), the city said it is preparing an application to the state's [Community Development Block Grant Large Facilities Program](https://www.kansascommerce.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/2026-CDBG-Community-Facilities-Large-Grants-Guidelines.pdf?ref=citizenjournal.us) to address and remove barriers at the plaza under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The informational session is set for 9 a.m. in the City Commission Room at the McPherson Municipal Center, 400 E. Kansas Ave. The city said the session will cover the proposed application and the planned improvements.

The plaza at Main and Marlin is the same space where the city installed permanent shade structures, a project completed in February 2026 and formally dedicated in May.

In July 2026, the city held a comparable public meeting for homeowners seeking $25,000 repair grants.
