Staff is visiting local businesses and organizations to demonstrate digital services such as Kanopy.

McPherson Public Library Marketing Director Lindsay Helmes said the library aims to register 100 new cardholders during National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

"We are visiting businesses and organizations to meet patrons where they are, helping them sign up for and access all of our digital services without needing to come to the library," Helmes said.

One of those services is Kanopy, an online platform carrying films, television series, documentaries and children's programming. Patrons can access the collection with a McPherson Public Library card and an account in good standing.

"Just as your library buys books to add to its collection for you to borrow, your library offers a variety of digital resources," Helmes said. "Kanopy is one of the more popular ones."

The library's [Digital Downloads page](https://macpl.org/digital-downloads/?ref=citizenjournal.us) says adult users receive 25 Kanopy viewing tickets each month. Kanopy Kids content is available without using those tickets.

According to [Kanopy's support page](https://help.kanopy.com/en-us/4260.htm?ref=citizenjournal.us), tickets reset on the first day of each month, and unused tickets do not carry over. Ticket requirements and viewing periods vary by title.

Patrons must have a four-digit library PIN to register. They can begin by accessing the [McPherson Public Library Kanopy portal](https://www.kanopy.com/en/macpl?ref=citizenjournal.us), entering their library card information, and creating a Kanopy account.

Helmes said the library has offered Kanopy demonstrations during outreach programs and posted informational videos on its Facebook page to help patrons learn how to use the service.

"If someone wasn't able to make it to a session, the staff at the McPherson Public Library would love to help them get started," Helmes said.

Kanopy also publishes a [national editorial calendar](https://static.od-cdn.com/2026-KANOPY-US-EDITORIAL-CALENDAR.PDF?ref=citizenjournal.us) highlighting portions of its collection throughout the year. The 2026 calendar lists "TV Series in September" as a vendor-selected theme.

Residents who need help obtaining a card, setting a PIN, or creating a Kanopy account can contact McPherson Public Library at 620-245-2570 or [library@macpl.org](mailto:library@macpl.org). The library is at 214 W. Marlin St. in McPherson.
