McPherson residents can talk with city police officers over coffee from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Starbucks, 2111 E. Kansas Ave. The McPherson Police Department announced the Coffee with a Cop event in a Monday, Oct. 5, post on its Facebook page.

According to the Coffee with a Cop organization, the national community policing program brings officers and residents together for informal conversation outside calls for service, with the goal of building relationships. Police Chief Magazine, a law enforcement publication, describes the program as a community engagement tool for police agencies. The event also adds to the department's public presence as it continues recruiting full-time and reserve officers.
