The [McPherson Police Department](https://www.mcpcity.com/171/Police-Department?ref=citizenjournal.us) is hiring police officers and an administrative assistant and is seeking reserve officers and interns, according to a department Facebook post Monday, Oct. 5.

The city’s current job openings page lists paid police officer and police reserve officer positions. Officer applicants may apply through the [Kansas Government Jobs officer listing](https://www.ksgovjobs.com/Vacancies/VacancyDetail/135?ref=citizenjournal.us), while reserve applicants may apply through the [Kansas Government Jobs reserve listing](https://www.ksgovjobs.com/Vacancies/VacancyDetail/850?ref=citizenjournal.us). Both listings require applicants to submit completed supplemental responses.

The department’s post also sought an administrative assistant and interns.

According to the department’s Facebook post, department representatives attended the [McPherson College Alumni Career Fair](https://www.mcpherson.edu/alumni/homecoming/?ref=citizenjournal.us) Friday, Oct. 2, as part of the college’s Homecoming weekend. The outreach follows a [July recruitment drive](https://www.citizenjournal.us/mcpherson-police-department-launches-recruitment-drive-to-bolster-local-force/) to fully staff a department authorized for 34 sworn officers and about 15 civilian employees.

A current [officer job listing](https://www.ksgovjobs.com/Vacancies/VacancyDetail/135?ref=citizenjournal.us) lists a starting wage of $23.04 an hour, with step increases up to $31.05\. It says the department prefers state-certified officers but will provide basic academy training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center for qualified candidates who aren't yet certified.
