MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Police Department is recruiting full-time officers to fully staff its 34-member force and protect the city's nearly 14,000 residents, offering starting wages of $23.04 an hour.

Under the direction of [Chief Mikel T. Golden](https://www.citizenjournal.us/from-brooklyn-to-mcpherson-chief-mikel-golden-leads-with-heart/), the 154-year-old agency prefers state-certified applicants but will provide basic academy training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center for candidates who possess above-average written and verbal skills.
