# McPherson nurse practitioner, Purple Heart recipient recognized by state hospital association

Jacob "Jake" Perryman, an advanced practice registered nurse at McPherson Center for Health, was nominated for the Kansas Hospital Association's Heart of Health Care Award, presented during the association's Sept. 10-11 convention and trade show in Overland Park.

McPherson Center for Health announced that Perryman received the award. The association's award program recognizes health care employees for leadership, teamwork, dedication, and contributions to their hospitals, according to KHA.

According to KHA's profile of Perryman, he served in the U.S. Army, received the Purple Heart, and worked as a paramedic, emergency department nurse, and hospital house supervisor before becoming an advanced practice registered nurse in the hospital's Walk-In Care Clinic.

Perryman served six years in the Army and was medically retired after being wounded in combat in Iraq. He earned an associate degree in paramedicine from Hutchinson Community College, an associate degree in nursing from Pratt Community College, and bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Chamberlain University. He is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Perryman helped initiate a change that uses advanced practice registered nurses to provide overnight coverage in place of a contracted telemedicine service, which the association says improved patients' experience and reduced costs.

McPherson Center for Health is a nonprofit, 49-bed acute care hospital serving McPherson and surrounding communities. Its services include 24-hour emergency care, medical-surgical and intensive care units, a birth center, surgery, family medicine, and hospitalist care.
