Following the recent resignation of the department's receptionist, the commission approved a new job description for an administrative assistant who will be tasked with assisting in crime intelligence analysis. The commission authorized the police department to immediately begin the hiring process for the new, non-officer position. --- ### **New police substation opens to the public for ribbon cutting** MCPHERSON, Kan. - The McPherson Police Department held a public ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for its new substation at 218 E. Kansas Ave. Officials noted this would be the only opportunity for the general public to tour the inside of the new facility due to security regulations. The substation is intended to increase police presence and provide additional resources in the area. Because more than one commissioner was expected to attend, the event was officially designated as a public meeting. --- ### **Commission approves over $60,000 for emergency water park repairs** MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city commission on Tuesday approved an additional $38,000 for emergency waterline repairs at the McPherson Water Park, bringing the project's total cost to $63,000\. The project involves the removal and replacement of a west recirculation pipe. According to city documents, the expanded scope of work necessitated the additional funding. The motion approved payment to Dondlinger Construction for the turnkey project, which includes all labor, materials and site restoration. The mayor was authorized to sign the acceptance and notice to proceed. --- ### **Road construction projects face weather and material delays** MCPHERSON, Kan. - Several major road construction projects throughout the city are experiencing delays due to weather and material sourcing issues, the Public Works department reported Tuesday. On Meyer Street, a contractor error requires the replacement of a newly installed sidewalk section at the contractor's expense. Seeding on Elm Street has been delayed by rain, while pipe work on Northview Road has been slowed by wet conditions. Sidewalk pouring on Northview Road is also on hold pending the finalization of a new Kansas Department of Transportation-approved concrete mix. Meanwhile, traffic on First Street has been shifted to the eastbound lanes as crews begin patching that side of the road. --- ### **Wastewater plant to receive $47,500 in upgrades** MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city will purchase $47,500 worth of new equipment for the UV treatment system at the wastewater treatment facility. The city commission approved the purchase of 24 lamps, ballasts and other replacement parts from Environmental Process Equipment Co. of Wichita. The UV system is a critical component of the city's water treatment process. --- ### **City finalizes housing grant, covers $16,000 overage** MCPHERSON, Kan. - The city commission approved the final payments for a 2022 Community Development Block Grant housing rehabilitation project, using over $16,000 in city funds to cover costs exceeding the grant amount. The commission approved a final payment request totaling $105,619 to several contractors for work completed on homes on South Walnut, South Chestnut and West Avenue C.
