WICHITA, Kan. — Two people from McPherson, a child and an adult, died Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck drove through a youth soccer game at Stryker Sports Complex, 2999 N. Greenwich, the Wichita Police Department said.

The two were not related, Capt. Aaron Moses said at an evening news conference.

Mayor Jim Loving [issued a statement Saturday evening](https://www.citizenjournal.us/mayor-loving-issues-statement-after-deaths-of-two-mcpherson-residents/), saying that the community stood with the affected families.

"Tonight McPherson is grieving. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones today, with those who are hurt, and with everyone who was affected. The whole community stands with these families, and we will support them in every way we can.” Mayor Loving said.

Moses said Sedgwick County Emergency Communications began receiving calls at 3:25 p.m. Officers found the truck on the west side of a field at the west end of the complex, with the driver, a Garden City woman, and two juveniles still inside.

Police said she has been cooperative and is in custody, and that she had no warrants and held a valid driver's license. Investigators believe she had a child playing at the complex, though not on that field.

Police will work with the district attorney to determine whether charges are appropriate.

Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service transported 11 people to area hospitals. Officials said bystanders were already giving aid when crews arrived.

Ten had traumatic injuries ranging from bruises to severe, all of which police believe are not life-threatening: five children, three boys and two girls, and five adults, three women and two men. One more adult, a woman, was taken to a hospital for a non-traumatic medical issue.

Detectives have interviewed more than 30 witnesses and will review facility surveillance video along with photos and video the public can submit through a link on the department's Facebook and X pages. Anyone with information can call the WPD investigations section or Crime Stoppers.

Moses said the department is the only source of verified information about the incident and that details may change as the investigation continues.

Several others were taken to hospitals. Police had not released their conditions or the names of the two who died as of Saturday evening.
