Sheriff's Office Highlights Vehicle Costs and New Body Camera Contract

MCPHERSON COUNTY - The McPherson County Sheriff's Office will maintain its $220,000 vehicle budget for 2026 to replace four patrol cars, with officials emphasizing the significant additional costs of outfitting each vehicle with necessary equipment that runs into the thousands of dollars beyond the base purchase price. The department operates under a five-year contract with Axon for body cameras and tasers costing approximately $40,900 annually, featuring an automated system that activates cameras on all nearby officers when any officer deploys their taser. Despite the McPherson Police Department's recent opening of a new substation, Sheriff's Office officials confirmed they will not be gaining additional office space at the joint Law Enforcement Center, as the police department has no plans to vacate their current quarters in the shared facility.
