McPherson Public Schools Launches Free Summer Meals Program Starting June 5
SUN Meals to GO offers 5-day breakfast and lunch packages for children ages 1-18

McPherson Public Schools will offer free summer meals to local children for the first time through the SUN Meals to GO Program, providing families with convenient access to nutritious breakfast and lunch options throughout the summer break. The program, powered by USDA's Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids, will run from June 5 through August 7, 2025, with weekly pick-ups available every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at McPherson High School's North High parking lot.
The program is designed to serve any child between ages 1 and 18, with no income requirements or registration necessary to participate. Families can pick up five days' worth of breakfasts and lunches at one time, completely free of charge, with each meal pack meeting USDA nutrition guidelines and including a mix of cold, ready-to-eat items like sandwiches or wraps, easy-to-heat options, milk, and fruit. Children must accompany their parent or guardian during the first pickup to receive a placard, after which meals can be collected using the placard even if the child is not present.
Food Service Manager MaiThy Jesseph and Food Service Administrative Assistant Amanda Frisbie are available to answer questions at 620-241-9490 and 620-241-9450, respectively. The program cannot split or divide meal kits, so families must take the full five-day packages during each Thursday pickup. As an equal opportunity provider, McPherson Public Schools aims to ensure that local children have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.
