McPherson Police Department Advances Public Safety Infrastructure
New substation, surveillance cameras, and command trailer highlight department's expansion efforts

The McPherson Police Department is making significant strides in enhancing public safety infrastructure throughout the city, according to Police Chief Mikel Golden. Major projects currently underway include a new police substation nearing completion, the implementation of a citywide surveillance camera network, and the deployment of a state-of-the-art mobile command trailer.
The department's new substation has reached a critical construction milestone with drywall installation complete and drop ceiling, painting, and flooring work scheduled next. Additionally, the department has secured congressional appropriations funding for six Flock automatic license plate reading cameras under a five-year contract, with plans to expand the surveillance network by adding CCTV cameras throughout the city using remaining funds. The mobile command trailer, equipped with radio and cell phone boosters to ensure communication in areas with poor reception, awaits only final camera installation before becoming fully operational.
Beyond infrastructure improvements, the department continues to strengthen community ties and address staffing needs. The McPherson PD recently hosted its first "Heroes and Warriors Range Day" on May 15, sponsored by Sheep Dog Impact Assistance and Wild Valor, which brought together 15 veterans and first responders for a day at the range. The next event is scheduled for July 19, with the department actively seeking donors and sponsors. The department also honored fallen officers during Police Week with graveside memorial services on Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15. Currently, the department is working to fill two open police officer positions as part of its ongoing recruitment efforts.
