McPHERSON — The McPherson 12U softball team delivered a dominant performance at the USSSA State Tournament in Derby this past weekend, sweeping through the competition with a perfect 6-0 record to claim the state championship. The Bullpups' offense and defense were firing on all cylinders throughout the tournament, outscoring their opponents by a commanding 42-9 margin. The championship run culminated with a decisive 9-0 victory over KS SpinTech-Peden in the title game, capping off an impressive display of softball excellence in challenging hot and windy conditions.

The most dramatic moment of the tournament came in the semifinal matchup against the Smoky Valley Vikings, where a scoreless pitcher's duel extended into the bottom of the fifth inning. Cayson Harlin broke the deadlock with a leadoff line drive single, followed by perfectly executed bunts from Hayden Vogelsberg and Hayden Allen to load the bases. Lilly Hett then delivered the clutch hit, grounding a ball that scored the game's only run and sent McPherson to the championship game. The Bullpups' pitching staff was outstanding all weekend, with Leah Jackson recording 25 strikeouts and Hayden Vogelsberg contributing 13 more from the circle. The team will conclude their summer season next weekend in Salina, looking to add one more victory to their remarkable championship campaign.
