SALINA, Kan. — The McPherson High School Lady Bullpups softball team broke open a tight game with a dominant sixth-inning performance to defeat Circle 10-1 in the opening round of the Class 4A state tournament Thursday. After entering the fourth inning tied 1-1, the Bullpups began to pull away with two runs in the fourth that included an RBI single by Ava Romero, followed by another run in the fifth courtesy of an RBI from Pera Bauer to take a 4-1 advantage into the later innings.

The Lady Bullpups exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away in emphatic fashion, highlighted by senior Addison Chapman's three-run homer that broke the game open. Carmin Pavlovich added a two-RBI single and Haely Hagemann contributed an RBI double to cap the decisive rally that extended McPherson's lead to 10-1 and effectively sealed the victory. The convincing win sets up a semifinal showdown with Clearwater at 11 a.m. Friday, with the winner advancing to the championship game at 5 p.m. the same day. Teams that fall in the semifinals will compete in the third-place game at 3 p.m., as the undefeated Lady Bullpups continue their quest for a state title with momentum firmly on their side.
