Kitchen Fire Displaces Residents on North Oak Street
McPherson Fire Department rescues two dogs, quickly contains blaze to single room

McPherson Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of North Oak Street at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning after a neighbor reported smoke coming from the residence. One resident had safely evacuated before crews arrived, but two dogs remained trapped inside the burning home. Firefighters quickly entered the structure and extinguished the kitchen fire while conducting a thorough search that led to both dogs being found unharmed—one in the basement and another in a rear room—and safely reunited with their owners.

The accidental fire, which originated in the kitchen, was successfully contained to that area, though heat, smoke, and water damage affected the rest of the structure. Four residents have been displaced due to the incident. McPherson EMS and McPherson Police Department also assisted at the scene, with Fire Chief Chad Mayberry confirming the cause was determined to be accidental.
