MCPHERSON, Kan. — The top-seeded McPherson High School Bullpups baseball team took the first step toward a state tournament berth with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Circle in their Class 4A regional opener on Tuesday. The Bullpups were led by a masterful pitching performance from senior Logan Beede, who stymied the Circle offense through five scoreless innings on the mound, racking up eight strikeouts while allowing minimal baserunners in a clutch postseason effort.
The Bullpups' pitching dominance continued in the regional championship game, where they blanked rival Buhler 6-0 behind another exceptional mound performance, this time from senior Ian Razak who allowed no runs in his start to help punch McPherson's ticket to the Class 4A state tournament. The convincing shutout victory against their cross-county rivals capped an impressive regional showing where McPherson's pitching staff surrendered just one run in two games. With momentum firmly on their side following two commanding victories, McPherson now turns its attention to the state championship tournament next week in Salina, where they'll look to continue their impressive postseason run against Kansas' best 4A competition.
