MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson High School Bullpups golf team fell just short of their team qualification goals at Monday's Class 4A regional tournament, finishing fourth with a team score of 340 when a top-three finish was needed to advance as a complete unit to the state championships. Despite the team disappointment, the Bullpups will still be represented at the state tournament by sophomore standout Cole Cooper, who secured his individual qualification with an impressive fourth-place finish after carding a solid 76. Junior Paxton Ingels also punched his ticket to the state tournament, tying for 11th place with an 85 to claim one of the coveted individual qualifying spots.

The narrow team miss was particularly heartbreaking for sophomore Hudson Krehbiel, who fell just short of individual qualification after tying for 18th place with an 88, missing the state cut by the slimmest of margins. Junior Kameron Buckbee, senior Lawson Ediger, and junior Teigan Younger rounded out the Bullpups' regional lineup, with each contributing to the team's fourth-place effort but ultimately seeing their seasons come to an end. While the team disappointment was evident, Cooper and Ingels will now turn their focus to representing McPherson at the upcoming Class 4A state championships, which will be held at the challenging Sand Creek Station course in Newton, Kansas, where they'll compete against the best individual golfers from across the state.
