MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson High School Bullpup football team wrapped up their summer team camp this week with impressive results, as head coach Jace Pavlovich praised his squad's commitment and focus throughout the installation process. "The energy and enthusiasm at camp was great all week," Pavlovich said. The coach emphasized that the team's goals were straightforward: "Our goals this camp were simple. Show up and work hard together. We feel that they have a great understanding of what we are doing."

With a numerically small senior class, Pavlovich noted the emergence of underclassmen who have stepped up to fill leadership roles. "We have had a bunch of kids step up and show growth from last season," he explained. "We have small senior class in terms of numbers, so we will need quite a few sophomores and juniors to rise to the occasion." The coach singled out senior Braxton Burgess as the team's standout leader, stating, "The guy who stands out is Braxton Burgess. He is locked in as our leader on and off of the field. Our guys understand that if we want to be good, we will have to get everyone pulling on the same end of the rope to be successful."

Pavlovich highlighted specific areas of improvement, noting that "our OL and LB core showed tremendous progress through the camp," while identifying the team's projected strength in skill positions. "Our strength will be in the skill positions offensively and defensively. The reason is that we have a ton of quality kids at those position groups," he said. Looking ahead to the Fort Hays State contact camp on June 16-17 and the 7-on-7 tournament on July 17th, Pavlovich expressed optimism about the team's potential. "Based off of installation camp, we have high expectations and have the potential to be a very good football team. We need a great summer to be just that," he concluded, emphasizing that "football is unlike any other sport in that you need approximately 40-50 guys to be good at the varsity level."
