# Lawrence commission to weigh $951,502 fire station design deal, Indiana Street demolition request

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Lawrence city commissioners are set [Tuesday, Aug. 4](https://lawrenceks.gov/2026/07/city-commission-august-4-agenda/?ref=citizenjournal.us), to decide whether to spend $951,502 on architectural design for an expanded Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Station No. 6, a contract that covers design work only. The agenda asks commissioners to authorize the city manager to execute the agreement with SFS Architecture, Inc. for the project. The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. on the first floor of City Hall, 6 East 6th Street, with a Zoom option.

Commissioners will also hold a public hearing on whether to let the owner of 1827 Indiana Street demolish a house inside the University Place Neighborhood, where Ordinance No. 10212 established a moratorium on demolition permits.
