# Hutchinson wins health grant to update its bike and pedestrian plan

Hutchinson will rewrite the plan that guides its sidewalks, crossings and bike routes, using grant money from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, with residents asked to help set the priorities. The city announced the award Tuesday, Aug. 25, and did not say how much it received.

The city said the money comes through the insurer's Pathways to a Healthy Kansas initiative and “will help us plan for a safer, more connected community where people of all ages and abilities have more opportunities to walk, bike, and stay active.”

Over the coming months, the city said, it will work with the community to identify priorities and opportunities for improving the bicycle and pedestrian network, and will announce ways to get involved later. The city did not say when work on the update begins, when a draft is expected, or how residents will be able to weigh in.

The announcement also credited the Reno County Community Wellness Coalition, which has partnered with Pathways on earlier local health and wellness projects in Hutchinson and Reno County.
