HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department distributed nearly $54,000 in donated school supplies, gift cards and cash to 35 schools across Reno County in late July. The materials, collected during the department's annual back-to-school drive, were delivered to classrooms, providing students and teachers with essential supplies.

The [collection event took place July 24-26](https://www.citizenjournal.us/hutchinson-firefighters-kick-off-annual-weekend-school-supply-drive/) at local Dillons and Walmart stores, where off-duty firefighters and their families volunteered to gather and sort the community contributions. The initiative drew support from corporate sponsors including Ad Astra Radio, RCB Bank, Midway Motors, Home Depot and Lowe's. Additional volunteer assistance was provided by Horizon's and Trinity Catholic School, while local restaurants Pizza Ranch and Firehouse Subs donated meals to keep the collection crews fed during the weekend effort.
