# Hutchinson councilman Greg Fast resigns; council to take up filling Southwest District seat Oct. 20

Hutchinson's Southwest District has no City Council member after Councilman Greg Fast resigned for personal reasons, and the council plans to take up how residents can apply for the seat Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fast said in his written resignation that he had served the city for five years. The city gave the effective date as Monday, Oct. 5.

Mayor Scott Meggers, elected to the post in January, formally acknowledged the resignation at the start of the council's Tuesday, Oct. 6 meeting.

Fast's departure follows the city's mid-September acceptance of the resignations of its city manager and an assistant city attorney. The council named Gary Meagher interim city manager, his second time in the job.

Council members discussed next steps during the Oct. 6 meeting. Along with the application process, the Oct. 20 discussion is set to cover the qualifications for appointment and the expected timeline for choosing a new council member.

"We want this to be an open, fair, and transparent process," Meggers said in a city statement. The city says it will share more information about the vacancy after that meeting.
