Hutchinson's City Council approved a 2027 budget Tuesday evening, Sept. 15, that directs more than $2 million into reserves. The city says the addition nearly doubles its projected reserve balance.

According to the city's announcement, posted Wednesday, Sept. 16, on its verified government Facebook page, the money came out of a budget study session held the week before, at which the council reviewed proposed expenditures with city staff and identified savings.

The city's unsigned statement said: "Strong reserves provide greater financial stability, help prepare the City for unexpected needs and ensure we can continue providing the services our community relies on every day."
