# Hutchinson awarded $3.4 million in tax credits to build 84 new homes

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson is slated to get 84 new apartments after two proposed developments secured roughly $3.4 million in competitive state and federal housing tax credits.

The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation selected the two projects — Hutchinson Park and Plaza Trails — earlier this month as part of its highly competitive 2026 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. Hutchinson Park, developed by Zimmerman Properties LLC, will bring 48 affordable housing units to the northeast corner of Lorraine Street and 13th Avenue. Plaza Trails, developed by JES Dev Co. Inc., will construct 30 affordable units and six market-rate units on Plaza East Drive.

The two developments were among just 13 projects awarded funding statewide. To help secure the approximately $1.7 million in federal tax credits and $1.7 million in matching state credits, local officials bolstered the applications with fee waivers and industrial revenue bonds. The Hutchinson Community Foundation and First National Bank of Hutchinson also provided low-interest financing from a local investment pool, which earned the proposals crucial bonus points in the state's scoring system.
