Schools getting flashing speed signs
May 18, 2025

New flashing school zone signs will be placed this summer at three USD 308 schools, the city announced via Facebook. The placement is in an effort to increase traffic safety near education centers.
The signs are set to be installed before students return to class in August at Hutchinson Middle School 7 on Avenue A, Hutchinson Middle School 8 on Adams Street, and Graber Elementary on 17th Avenue.
Additional lights are being considered and a new school zone and pedestrian crosswalk on Severance Street is being discussed. The city plans to equip all USD 308 schools with flashing school zone signs over the next three years at a rate of three schools per year.
“I commend our staff on their work on the subject, and I know this will make our students' travel safer,” Mayor Stacy Goss said in the post.
