Salvation Army to host Summer Heat Relief event for homeless

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army will host a free community event Wednesday aimed at providing relief services to homeless individuals during summer heat conditions.

Beat the Heat 2025 is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23 at The Salvation Army, 700 N. Walnut St.

The event will offer showers from 9 to 11 a.m., free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., supply packs, bottled water, first aid kits and on-site haircuts. Health services will include STI and STD testing, along with free Naloxone and fentanyl test strips.

Unhoused Conversation, a local advocacy group, is organizing the event in partnership with area agencies. Organizers said the program focuses on community care and safety during high summer temperatures.

The event is open to all homeless individuals in the Hutchinson area.
