New furniture store opens in former Hutchinson video rental building
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A locally owned furniture store has opened in a building that sat vacant for years after the closure of a video rental chain, bringing new retail activity to a prominent north Hutchinson corner.
Bailey Home Furnishings opened Tuesday at 900 E. 30th Ave., Suite A, in the former Family Video building at the intersection of 30th Avenue and Severance Street. The business is owned by Nathan and Tiffany Bailey, who signed the lease in April and completed interior renovations over the past two months.
The store specializes in modern furniture from brands including Ashley and England, making it the only certified Ashley dealer in Hutchinson. The business focuses primarily on living room furniture while also offering bedroom and dining sets, plus custom orders through a digital catalog system.
Nathan Bailey brings 15 years of experience in the home furnishings industry to the venture. The couple formed the business in January after identifying a market opportunity in the Hutchinson area.
Store renovations included a complete interior paint job and installation of two sets of double doors on the building's west side to facilitate furniture delivery. A fire-rated door was added to create a separate, private area for mattress shopping away from the main showroom.
The business operates Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed Sundays and Mondays.
Bailey Home Furnishings expects to employ four full-time staff members initially, with potential for expansion based on customer demand. New permanent signage is being installed, including a 7-foot-by-16-foot marquee panel to replace the former video store's exterior lettering.
The business has joined the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce as it establishes its presence in the local retail market. Additional information is available on the store's Facebook page.
