Monarchs Rally Past Cannons 14-4 Behind 12-Run Eighth

AUGUSTA, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs exploded for 12 runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Kansas Cannons 14-4 on Friday night at Augusta Stadium.
Blake Bradford delivered the decisive blow with a grand slam that highlighted the offensive outburst and put the game out of reach.
The Cannons (6-2) struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Hunter Alvord homered to left field and Owen Baxter followed with an RBI single down the left field line, giving Kansas a 2-0 lead.
The Monarchs (5-0) answered in the eighth inning with their explosive rally. Bradford's grand slam capped a four-hit, 12-run frame that turned a close game into a rout. The big inning featured contributions from throughout the Hutchinson lineup.
PITCHING PERFORMANCES
Ethan Giesbrecht earned the victory for Hutchinson, allowing eight hits and three runs over five innings while striking out six and walking one.
Brayden Thompson took the loss for Kansas. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six runs on two hits in one inning of work, striking out three and walking four.
Logan Gross started for the Cannons, allowing four hits and no runs over four innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
OFFENSIVE LEADERS
Kansas collected 10 hits in the loss. Chase Diggins, Teigan Munce, Baxter and Cooper Greene each recorded two hits for the Cannons. Munce, Alvord and Baxter each drove in one run.
Hutchinson finished with 13 hits. Keegan Demmer and Dylan Bell paced the Monarchs with three hits apiece. Bradford drove in four runs with his grand slam, while Jeter Worthley and Drew Bugner each collected multiple hits. Bugner led the team with two walks.
The Monarchs showed strong plate discipline throughout, accumulating seven walks for the game and turning one double play defensively.

Kansas (6-2) hosts Junction City Brigade on Saturday for their next contest.
The Hutchinson Monarchs (5-0) return home Monday night to face the Wichita Black Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
