HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchison Monarchs baseball team hosted the Junction City Brigade in a Jayhawk League matchup on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. In a low-scoring game, the Monarchs won the game 2-1.
The Jayhawk League is an amateur collegiate summer baseball league. Collegiate leagues feature players who have attended at least one year of college and have at least one year of athletic eligibility remaining. This league uses wooden bats, similar to those used in professional baseball, which can be a change for many players who have primarily used metal bats.

Pitcher No. 7 Cole Toureau (Jr., Pittsburg State University/Thornton, Colo.) led the Monarchs pitching staff, coming out of the bullpen to earn the win. He allowed no runs and one hit, walking three and striking out eight in 5.2 innings.

On offense, Hutchinson scored their runs in the 4th and 6th innings. Designated Hitter No. 33 Jake Knox (So., Murray State/Edmond Okla.) reached base when hit by the Junction City pitcher. Center Fielder #18 Dylan Bell (Fr. Louisiana State University Eunice/Moss Bluff, La.) drove Knox in with a triple. The winning run was scored by Shortstop No. 13 Drew Bugner (Jr., Pittsburg State, Andale, Kan.) on an RBI ground ball hit by Left Fielder No. 10 Blake Bradford (Jr., University of West Georgia, Sylvania, Ohio).
With this victory, the Monarchs improved their record to 11-2, maintaining first place in the Jayhawk League. Their next home game at Hobart-Detter Park is scheduled for Monday, June 23, against Wildcat Baseball.
