Monarchs' Perfect Season Ends in 6-5 Defeat to Haysville

HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs' bid for a perfect season came to an abrupt halt Tuesday evening as they dropped a 6-5 decision to the Haysville Aviators in a game that showcased both teams' offensive capabilities.

Despite collecting 10 hits compared to Haysville's seven, the Monarchs (6-1) couldn't capitalize on their opportunities when it mattered most. A wild fifth inning proved costly for Hutchinson, as the Aviators seized control with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when Hutchinson appeared to gain momentum. Jace Legg and Bryson Bradford delivered consecutive RBI singles to knot the score at 2-2, but Haysville immediately answered with a four-run outburst. Owen Rush's two-run double highlighted the rally, while a wild pitch allowed Cale Ortner to cross the plate.

Legg kept the Monarchs' hopes alive in the fifth with a two-run single, narrowing the deficit to 6-4. However, Quincy Groebl's solo homer in the bottom half restored Haysville's two-run cushion. Though Bradford scored on another wild pitch in the eighth and Kade Demmer added a double, Hutchinson fell one run short of extending the game.

Cooper Senne picked up the victory for the Aviators (6-2), while Cole Toureau absorbed the loss for Hutchinson. The clubs will meet again tonight at 7 p.m. in Haysville, with both teams looking to establish early momentum in what promises to be another competitive affair.
