June 9, 2025

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas Central Model Railroaders will host their annual Center of the Nation Model Railroad Expo on June 14-15 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, featuring more than 125 vendor tables and multiple operating layouts across 25,800 square feet.
"The show has interactive layouts for all ages and 145 vendor tables to promote model trains and train safety," KCMR Secretary Jolene Demoret said.
The two-day event will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pride of Kansas Building. Admission is $8 for adults and $15 for a two-day pass, with children under 13 admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
The expo will showcase operating layouts in HO, O and N scales, according to organizers. The Kansas Central Model Railroaders, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, sponsors the event.
In conjunction with the expo, the group will hold a fundraiser Tuesday, June 17, at Gambino's Pizza, located at 310 South Main Street in South Hutchinson. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., a portion of proceeds from dining at the restaurant will benefit the Kansas Central Model Railroaders.
The model railroad club, formed in 1985, operates four layouts including two in HO scale, one N scale layout and a vintage Lionel 1958 store layout in O gauge. The organization became a limited liability company in January 2017 and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status approval in November 2017.
Membership in the Kansas Central Model Railroaders is open to anyone 16 or older interested in model railroading, regardless of experience level. The club's home base is in Hutchinson, with most members from Hutchinson and Reno County, though members come from surrounding counties.
